To all ye who want to paint with light ...

I should have started this blog many moons ago as I started experiencing the joys of rediscovering the art of photography. But as the saying goes - it's better late, than never!
So, here I am, in the hopes of recording what I learn as I progress from ignorance to enlightenment; about what my eyes can see that my camera can capture; and, what my mind imagines and my camera paints with its capabilities.

Please feel free to add any comments and share your wisdom (tips or tricks) that you have picked up along the way.

And do check out my How-To and Birding pages as well.

Day 62 - Flash exposure compensation

I took a series of shots with my on-camera flash and tried to figure out the flash exposure.  I tried stepping it down from 0 and took a shot at every step to see how the flash behaved.  I was too tired to get up and find another subject, so I made do with my mouse - only to realize that the photos magnified how badly it needed a cleaning!  Oh, well!

Here's the series of shots that I stepped through from 0 down to -2 stops:

It was really interesting to see how the light from the flash gradually falls off behind the mouse.  Me thinks I can make do with FEC till I find an alternate strobe.  I'm going to try some more with different subjects to see how I can work around it.

What do you all think?
